What Is TSPS?
First established in 1956, the Tokyo Sail & Power Squadron, one of over 350 squadrons in the United States Power Squadrons, actively promotes recreational boating skills and boating safety through education, hands-on training, and civic activities while providing fellowship for members. TSPS became a UK-based Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Affiliated Club in June 2020.
We offer public boating safety and skills courses for new boaters or others wanting to brush up their knowledge of maritime rules and safety measures. We also provide Class 1 & 2 Japan Boat License test preparation courses in English. This license is necessary to operate small powered watercraft in Japan, including cruisers and sailboats with engines.
We hold monthly and annual boating-related events and activities, and offer a multitude of networking opportunities for expatriate and Japanese sailors. TSPS has the distinction of being the only USPS squadron in Japan and the only RYA Affiliated Club in Japan. New members are always welcome.
